Barrier First
Barrier First
IRWINGS is built on one idea. Skin that is acne-prone, sensitive or reactive doesn't need to be ”fixed“ aggressively, it needs its barrier rebuilt first. Every hero ingredient earns its place because it repairs the skin barrier (ceramides, oat peptides, hesperidin, filaggrin support) before it treats the visible concern (acne marks, dullness, fine lines, itching).
Description
Description
Most people searching “best retinol serum for beginners” or “retinol serum without irritation” are trying tosolve the same problem: strong enough to actually work, gentle enough to use every night. Irwings Advanced 0.3% Retinol Serum was formulated to remove that trade-off with a dual retinoid complex — fast-acting Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (SymRenew HPR) 0.15% paired with time-released Encapsulated Retinol 0.15%. HPR is a next-generation retinoid ester that binds directly to skin’s retinoid receptors, delivering visible results faster with less of the classic “retinisation” sting. Encapsulated Retinol works in parallel, releasing gradually overnight for sustained renewal instead of one harsh irritation spike. That’s the“two retinoids, one visible difference” promise: real anti-aging results without the redness-and-peeling trade-off.
This 0.3% total-strength dual retinoid serum is indicated for fine lines and wrinkles, uneven texture, dullness, and early signs of photoaging — the four concerns most people are searching for when they type“anti-aging serum” or “retinol for texture.” Unlike a bare-bones retinol, this formula doesn’t leave your barrier to fend for itself: Coenzyme Q 10 provides antioxidant defense against retinoid-induced oxidative stress, and Hyaluronic Acid replenishes hydration so skin doesn’t dry out or flake. D-Panthenol, Vitamin E, and Aloe Vera round it out, soothing and actively supporting the barrier throughout retinoid use.
Because retinoids are powerful actives, this is built for a real-world build-up routine: apply 3–4 drops to clean, dry skin at night, starting 2–3 nights a week and building to nightly as skin adjusts. Always follow with a moisturiser (Biome Bright Matte or Repair Hour work well) and never skip sunscreen the next morning - retinoids increase photosensitivity, and anti-aging gains hold only if UV damage isn’t undoing them in daylight.

Safety
Safety
- This is the strongest thing we make. Please read all of this before your first night.
- Patch test 24 hours before first use, without exception.
- Start at 2 to 3 nights a week and build up only once your skin is comfortable.
- Keep it off the eye area, the lips, and any broken or peeling skin.
- Do not use it on the same night as another retinoid, or as an AHA or BHA exfoliant. Alternate nights instead.
- Wear sunscreen every morning. Retinoids make skin more sensitive to sun, and without it you undo the work.
- Do not use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Ask your doctor what to use instead.
- Some dryness or flaking in the first fortnight is normal. Burning, swelling or a rash is not. Stop and see a dermatologist.
- Store below 25C, away from direct sun, with the cap closed.
What it does
01
TWO RETINOIDS, NOT ONE
Hydroxypinacolone retinoate works quickly. Encapsulated retinol is released slowly through the night. They are paired rather than stacked.
02
BUILT FOR NIGHTLY USE
Coenzyme Q10, hyaluronic acid, D-panthenol, vitamin E and aloe are in the formula so your barrier is looked after while you use it.
03
MADE FOR TEXTURE AND FINE LINES
This is the step for fine lines, rough patches and dullness, not for active breakouts.
How to use
01
At night only, on clean dry skin.
02
Start 2 to 3 nights a week, then build up as skin settles.
03
3 to 4 drops, avoiding eyes, lips and broken skin.
04
Moisturiser after. Sunscreen the next morning, without fail.
The two that matter

Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate
A retinoid ester that skin can use without converting it first. It is chosen in formulas aiming for retinoid activity with less of the usual sting.

Encapsulated Retinol
Retinol held inside a shell that opens gradually. The point of encapsulating it is a steady release overnight rather than one hit.
